The first number is the measurement of the Firefighter's index finger. The second part of the size, the letter, comes from the width of the Firefighter's hand across the knuckles. Please see the below diagraph chart from NFPA 1971-2018, Protective Ensembles for Structural Firefighting and Proximity Fire Fighting, for how to size the Firefighter's hand. If measurements are in between sizes it is recommended to trade up
"I have had the gloves for a couple months now, they are my duty gloves and have been used at several Structure fires. They are hands down the most comfortable and wearable gloves I've used in my almost 20 years in the fire service. I have made a recommendation to our Department heads to make Vanguard our glove of choice! I am ready to order myself another pair. Great job, thank you for making a glove for working Firefighters!I have had the gloves for a couple months now, they are my duty gloves and have been used at several Structure fires. "I recently held a training class with my Department on Ropes and Knots. During the Instructor demonstration portion of the class, I used the new Vanguard MK-1 Structural Fire Glove. During my 20+ years in the Fire Service I have used many different types of gloves. While using the MK-1 gloves during this training class, I was very impressed with the comfort, mobility and dexterity that the gloves offered while tying knots. I had other members try them on and they too were impressed by the fit and use of the glove. I was very impressed the gloves did not have that "nagging” extra glove material at the ends of the fingers. Thank you for making a glove that works!"
Specialist John Schafer/ Hopewell Valley Emergency Services Unit/ Mercer County, Trenton, NJ
"What do you do when your off shift, its 92 with a heat index of 101, and you get some new Vanguard gloves from Chris Gilpin @ FILO? You take them to the Y and bust it! 4 sets of tire hits, 100 yard hose pull, side strikes (I pretend I'm Matt Doney), 100 yd farmers carry, and ceiling pulls. Gloves felt broke in from the start. Took them off after each set with no trouble getting them back on. At the end, I filled the gloves with water, drained them then put them on. Check out the video. I'm a Pro-Tech guy, but the Vanguards are winning me over quick. Can't wait to hustle and flow in them."
Matthew Kid / Salem, Indiana
"Great glove. I bought these about 2 years ago, and I admitted I was expecting just another decent pair of gloves. These gloves have well out performed any other glove I've had. I'm beyond impressed with these gloves, they keep taking the punishment and coming right back. These are hands down, the best gloves I've ever had".
Mike Davidson / Assistant Chief / Athens Borough Fire Department / Athens, PA
"The MK1 is an excellent glove. I've been using these gloves for a few years and the dexterity is still awesome. Best gloves I've ever used".
